The HEART of a SERVANT
“What It Means to Follow the Master”
Mark 3:13-35
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mk. 10:45
I. Appointing the TWELVE (Mk. 3:13-19)
Jesus spent the _______ night in prayer on the mountain
before He chose the 12 disciples! cf. Lk. 5:16; 6:12; 9:28
Notice that Jesus specifically ________ the disciples
“who He Himself wanted.” cf. Lk. 6:12; Jn. 15:16
He “appointed” 12 “apostles”(Lk. 6:13) for the purpose of:
1) Being ______ Him & 2) To send them out to preach.
The Key Distinctive of an “Apostle” is that Jesus gave
them unique ____________. cf. Mt. 10:1-2; 2 Cor. 12:12
FYI – This “appointment” occurred about _____ years into
Jesus’ three-year ministry on earth.
Peter, James & John are listed first as they would become
the “_______-________” of disciples. cf. Mk. 5:37; 9:2
II. Accusing the TEACHER (Mk. 3:20-35)
Misunderstood by His Own Family
The crowds were so thick around Jesus that His own family
“_________” Him, thinking He was crazy! cf. Jn. 10:19-21
In vv. 31-35, Jesus makes a ___________ statement to
clarify who His true family members were!
He made clear that those who belong to His family are those
who _______ the will of God. cf. Mt. 7:24-27; 28:19-20
Misunderstood by the Religious Leaders
The Scribes accused Jesus of being _______-possessed &
that He cast out demons by Satan’s power! (v. 22)
Jesus shows how absurd the accusation is, in that Satan
can’t oppose himself because a _________ kingdom can
not stand. (vv. 23-26)
The Parable of the “Strong Man” teaches that Jesus had
to already _____ Satan to mess with his property!(v. 27)
Verses 28-29 are a severe warning to those who continue
to ________ the witness of the Holy Spirit! (Jn. 14-16)
Practical Application:
