Mark 9:49-50

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45

I.  The SALT of the Earth   (Mt. 5:13)

Salt was an _________ item in 1st century Palestine homes

& had many practical uses!   cf.  Matt. 5:13; Lk. 14:34-35

Practical Uses of Salt:

1.  To Preserve – The Church is to _________ spiritual

corruption & decay in the world.

2.  To Purify – The Church is an ___________ in the world.

3.  To Season – The Church is to add spice & _________

to life – whatever you do, have fun!

4.  To Create Thirst – The Church should make the world

NOTE – In Matt. 5:13-14, the word “you” is __________

& should be translated, “You, and you alone…”

FYI – Our primary & toughest ministry is not in the

church, but in the _________!   cf. Mk. 16:15; Jn. 20:21

II.  The LIGHT of the World    (Mt. 5:14-16)

LIGHT must ____________ to be effective!  cf. Mt. 5:15

Practical Uses of Light:

1.  To Warn – The Church’s radiance of Christ is most

visible in the _________ places!  cf.  Phil. 2:14-15

2.  To Guide & Direct – The Church is always to point lost

people to ________, our Only Hope!  cf. 1 Pet. 3:15
