Mark 9:1-8

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45

I.  The PURPOSE of the Experience  (9:1-2)

The Transfiguration follows Jesus’ prediction of the

________ & the narrow road of discipleship. (8:31-38)

In Context, verse 1 seems to point to the Transfiguration

as a “sneak __________” of the coming Kingdom of

God.        i.e.  a foretaste

In Mark 8:38, Jesus refers to His future return when He

will come with power & great _______!  cf. Mt. 24:30

Peter refers back to the _________ of the Transfigur-

ation in 2 Peter 1:16-18.  i.e.  encouragement & strength

II.  The POWER of the Experience  (9:2-8)

5 Wonderful Observations:

1.  The Inner Circle (v. 2) – Jesus took Peter, James and

John up on a high mountain to ______ & they were

overcome with sleep!   cf. Mk. 5:37; 14:33; Lk. 9:28

2.  The Radiant Glory (vv. 2-3) – The word “transfigure”

means to change into another _____ which emanated

divine glory.   cf. Dan. 7:9; Jn. 1:14; 1 Tim. 6:15-16

3.  The O.T. Partners (v. 4) – The disciples recognized

Moses & Elijah, as representatives of the Law & the

Prophets, speaking to Jesus about His __________.

4.   Peter’s Proposal (vv. 5-6) – Mark & Luke both indicate

that Peter spoke _________ in that he “didn’t

know what he was saying.”   cf.  Lk. 9:33; Mt. 16:22

5.   The Father’s Witness (vv. 7-8) – This is 1 of 3 times

the Father’s voice is heard ____________ the

ministry & mission of Christ.  cf. Mk. 1:11; Jn. 12:28
