   “What It Means to Follow the Master”

Mark 6:33-52

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45

I.  FEEDING the Multitude   (6:33-44)

Jesus had the heart of a _________ as He felt compassion

for people even when trying to be alone with His disciples!

cf.  Mk. 6:30-34; Mt. 9:35-38

When it got late, the disciples wanted to send the people

______ but Jesus commanded them to feed them!

FYI – 200 denarii would be about __ months wages. (v. 37)

Jesus fed all the people with __ loaves of bread & __ fish.

This is the only ________, besides the Resurrection, that

is recorded in all 4 Gospels.   cf.  Mt. 14; Lk. 9; Jn. 6

John includes it as one of his 7 “Signs” & includes Jesus’

“_______ of Life” discourse with it.  cf.  Jn. 6:1-58

It is no coincidence that the 12 disciples picked up ___

baskets full of leftovers! (v. 43)   cf. Mk. 5:25, 42

Most scholars believe that Jesus fed ______ thousand

people! (v. 44)    i.e.  “men” means strictly males

This is the only miracle that Mark records no ________

of amazement from the people.

II.  WALKING on the Water  (6:45-52)

John tells us that Jesus withdrew to the mountain to

______ after the people tried to “take Him by force

to make Him king.”     cf.  Jn. 6:15; Mk. 6:45-46

His disciples went by boat to the other side of the sea &

were caught in a ______ & Jesus came walking on the

water!   (vv. 47-48)

The disciples were “___________” until Jesus got into

the boat & the wind stopped. (vv. 49-51)

Verse 52 tells us that the disciples were still ________

about Jesus’ person & power!!   i.e.  “hardened”
