   “What It Means to Follow the Master”

Mark 5:21-43

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45                      

 I.  A HOPELESS Woman   (5:25-34)

Jesus specializes in giving individual attention to hurting &

________ people!

The nameless woman had a 12-year blood issue which meant

she was ceremonially ________.   cf.  Lev. 15:25-27, 31

Mark highlights how truly ___________ she was! (v. 26)

i.e.  “could not be healed by anyone” (Lk. 8:43)

She had heard about Jesus & knew if she just ________

His coat, she could be healed! (vv. 27-28)

Amazingly, Jesus ___________ that she had touched Him

& that power had gone out from Him! (v. 30)(Mt. 8:16-18)

Though the disciples thought He was crazy to ask about

this with such a huge crowd, the woman fell at His feet

& __________ the whole truth! (vv. 31-33) cf.  Mk. 6:37

Jesus declares that her _______ had saved her! (v. 34)

II.  A DESPERATE Man    (5:21-24, 35-43)

In direct contrast to the woman, Jairus was a wealthy,

spiritually-respected ______ of the synagogue. (v. 22)

He “fell at Jesus feet” and _______ Him to come heal

his 12-yr.-old daughter who was near death. (vv. 22-23)

After Jesus was detained or “interrupted” by the needy

woman, Jairus receives word that his daughter died!

Jesus says to him, “Do not be ________, only believe!”

Jesus takes Peter, James & John with Him to Jairus’

house & tells the mourners that the girl was not dead,

but only _________, & they laughed! (vv. 37-40)

Jesus then takes the girl by the hand, raises her to life

& the people were ___________! (vv. 41-43)
