“What It Means to Follow the Master”

Mark 12:28-44

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mk. 10:45

I. The Question of PRIORITY (12:28-34)

In the series of questions to ______ Jesus, a scribe

came to ask Him what the foremost commandment was.

cf. Mk. 12:28; Mt. 22:34-40 – 613 commandments

Jesus said that the 1^st & 2^nd commandments had to do

with _______ – toward God then to others! (vv. 29-31)

God’s Word says we “love because He first loved us” and

that Love ________ all kinds of sin; is the perfect

Jesus said that the whole Law & the Prophets _______

The scribe complimented Jesus on His answer & Jesus

II. The Question of IDENTITY (12:35-40)

Jesus then asked the Pharisees the Most Important

Question: _____ is the Messiah? (v. 35) cf. Mt. 22:41

Jesus quoted David in Psalm 110 who called the Messiah,

“________.” (vv. 36-37) cf. Jn. 7:41-42; Acts 2:34-36

As the people were enjoying Jesus’ teaching, He ______

them about the pride & hypocrisy of the scribes.

III. The Example of CHARITY (12:41-44)

While observing people putting their money into the tem-

ple treasury, a poor ______ dropped in 2 copper coins.
