Mark 12:13-27

             “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45

I.  The Question of RESPONSIBILITY (12:13-17)

After challenging Jesus’ authority, the leaders in Jeru-

salem sent some Pharisees & Herodians to ______ Him

with questions.(v. 13) cf.  Mk. 3:6; Mt. 22:15-16; Lk. 20

Luke says they were “______” who “pretended to be

righteous” as they flattered Jesus. (v. 14)  cf. Lk. 20:20

Jesus discerned their evil __________ in their question

concerning paying taxes to Caesar. (vv. 14-15)

cf. Mt. 22:18; Lk. 20:23; Jn. 2:25 – malice, hypocrisy

After requesting a coin with Caesar’s image on it, He said

it was their _______________ to respect authority &

pay the poll-tax. (vv. 15-17)  i.e.  “render” = to pay back

FYI – Secular government is ___________ by God.

II.  The Question of ETERNITY  (12:18-27)

The Sadducees were the most wealthy & ___________

of all the Jewish sects. (v. 18)

The Sadducees, who did not believe in _____ after death,

                    were the next group to question Jesus regarding levir-

ate marriage & the afterlife.(vv. 18-19) cf. Deut. 25:5-6

After their lengthy, malicious question, Jesus challenges

their understanding of Scripture & the ______ of God.

Unbelief boils down to a misunderstanding & ultimately a

__________ of the Word of God & the Power of God.

cf.  Mk. 12:24; Rom. 1:18-20; 2 Tim. 4:2-4

Though the Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection,

Jesus __________ it is true & that in eternity,

marriage will no longer exist. (vv. 25-27)  cf. Ex. 3:6

FYI – God has an _________ relationship with those who

spiritually alive! (v. 27)  cf.  Jn. 5:21,23; 11:25-26
