Mark 11:1-21

             “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45                      

 I.  Jesus Honored as KING   (11:1-10)

The “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem will be Jesus’ _____

major, public appearance before the Cross & it is record-

ed in all 4 Gospels.    cf.  Mt. 21; Mk. 11; Lk. 19; Jn. 12

Jesus is only days away from His Crucifixion & He wants

His disciples to prepare for His ________ entrance.

The _________ had great significance, though so humble!

cf.  Mk. 11:2-7; Gen. 49:10-11; 1 Kgs. 1:33; Zech. 9:9

The people’s reactions of coats & palm branches were part

of the ancient practice of welcoming a ______! (v. 8)

The word “Hosanna” means “______ us” & the reference

to Psalm 118 obviously connects Jesus to the Messiah!

cf.  Mk. 11:9-10; Ps. 118:26; Lk. 19:38; Jn. 12:13-15

The city was stirred up; the Pharisees were angry & the

disciples were _________!  cf. Mt. 21:10; Jn. 12:16-19

II.  Jesus Acts as JUDGE  (11:11-21)

Jesus was now going to give His disciples 2 demonstrations

of His Kingly ___________ & these reveal Israel’s sad,

spiritual condition. (vv. 12-18)

Jesus, first, expresses His power by ________ a fig tree

                    for not bearing fruit! (vv. 12-14)  i.e. “were listening”

Next, Jesus __________ drives out the moneychangers

from the temple in Jerusalem! (vv. 15-18)

He quotes Isaiah 56 to declare that the temple was to be

“a house of prayer for the ________!” cf. Is. 56:6-8

This caused the chief priests & scribes to begin to seek

to _______ Jesus though tough to do! cf. Lk. 19:47-48

i.e.  “afraid”  vs.  “astonished”

  2. His Tears – Lk. 19:41-44
  3. His Words – Mk. 11:18; Lk. 19:48; Jn. 12:19
