Mark 10:32-52

             “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45  

I.  The Road to Suffering   (10:32-34)

Mark again capitalizes on people’s __________ to Jesus.

i.e.  “amazed… fearful” (10:32)

After taking the 12 Apostles aside, Jesus predicts His

________, suffering, death & resurrection in Jerusalem.

cf.  Mk. 8:31-32; 9:9, 30-32 – “the Son of Man”

The first time He announced His coming death & resurrect-

ion, the Apostle Peter ________ Jesus.  cf. Mk. 8:31-32

II.  The Desire for Significance  (10:35-40)

James & John, the “sons of thunder,” along with their mom,

came to Jesus & asked a _______. (v. 35)  cf. Mt. 20:20

Don’t miss Jesus’ ________ response – “What do you want

                    Me to do for you?.”   cf.  Mk. 10:51; Mt. 20:32; Lk. 18:41

The Shocker in this passage is James & John’s courage (or

foolishness) to ask for _________ status in Christ’s

Kingdom.   cf.  Mt. 19:27-30; 20:21 – “Give to us…” (lit.)

Jesus references a “____” & a “baptism” which correspond

to His suffering & death.     cf.  Mk. 14:36

NOTE – Assigning places of ______ in the Kingdom were

not for Jesus to give.   cf.  Mt. 13:11; 20:23; Mk. 10:40

III.  The Model of Sacrifice  (10:41-52)

Jesus, the Master Teacher, does not rebuke them, but

clarifies the source & steps to true ___________.

In contrast to the Gentile world, greatness in God’s King-

dom is about ________ service. (vv. 42-44) cf. 9:35

VERSE 45 is the ________ of the passage where Jesus

announces that even the Son of Man came to serve &
