   “What It Means to Follow the Master”

Mark 10:17-31

             “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”   Mk. 10:45

I.  The Rich Man’s QUESTION  (10:17-22)

The young man who came & knelt before Jesus was very

rich & ____________!   cf.  Lk. 18:18,23; Mt. 19:23

The rich, young ruler’s view of obtaining eternal life was

_____________-based.      i.e.  “What shall I do?”

Though he earnestly desired eternal life, his _________

was confused! (vv. 18-21)  i.e. God, Jesus, Sin, Salvation

Jesus directs him to the ______ in order to expose his sin

& we see his pride & self-confidence.(v. 20) cf. Rom. 7:13

Don’t miss that Jesus “felt _______ for him.” (v. 21)

The young man’s besetting sin was greed, coveteousness

He wanted to obtain salvation on his terms & went away

II.  The Good Teacher’s EXPLANATION (10:23-31)

This incident presented a “___________ moment” for

Jesus & His disciples. (vv. 23-27)

NOTE – Jesus does not mince words when He says it is

impossible for a person to _______ in riches & get to

heaven!  (vv. 23-25)  i.e.  “camel thru eye of needle”

Jesus delivers a death blow to “___________ theology”

& astonishes the disciples. (vv. 25-26)

Jesus says those who are wealthy are _____-privileged,

Jesus’ closing words to Peter are _________ as to the
